I’m a 3rd generation St. Louis Jew, but I came to Mizzou in 2003 and I have since became a COMO townie. My husband John and I own Pizza Tree and we have two young daughters named Rosie & Micah. We’re members of Congregation Beth Shalom where I taught religious school and tutored Bar/Bat Mitzvah students for many years. While everyone else was home baking sourdough, I started baking bagels in 2020, and Goldie’s was born as a pandemic pop up at Pizza Tree that August. Over the next year of high and lows, we showed up and made bagels. I quickly learned how much Jewish comfort food means to all kinds of people, from a Sunday morning tradition to a Bat-Mitzvah brunch centerpiece. When I think about my life in bagels, I think about the spread of bagels and cream cheese and lox and egg salad at my Bat-Mitzvah brunch. I think about the 6 packs of bagels that every one of my family members has in their freezer. I think about starting Bagel Tuesdays at Mizzou Hillel and inviting students to connect with their Jewish community over bagels each week.
