FAQs

  • Our owner is named Amanda, not Goldie. Goldie was a potential name for her children, and when not chosen for a kid, was repurposed for our business name.

  • There’s turmeric in the dough (added to our sourdough base) and it’s rolled in black sesame seeds. It’s a bit earthy in taste and goes well with our sweet and savory schmears/fixins.

  • Our plain bagel (our bagel dough is a sourdough base) rolled in cornmeal - a St. Louis special our owner grew up with, and a staff favorite.

  • Yes - except for the egg bagels which are explicitly labeled as egg.

We do not have vegan meats, cheeses, or eggs. Our vegan cashew cream cheese, avocado mash, and peanut butter are vegan schmears, and our veggies are vegan fixins.

Our pastries are generally NOT vegan (butter, eggs, etc). Vegan pastries and treats will be labeled as such.

  • Cashews, tahini (sesame paste), lemon juice, water, salt.

(All of our bagels are vegan.)

  • I mean, sure? We are NOT trying to be or imitate a NY or East Coast bagel shop. Maybe people associate Jewish bagels shops with New York, but we are proudly a Midwestern Jewish Bagel Shop, with Midwest and St. Louis roots. (We do not buy into the idea that NY/East Coast bagels shops are inherently better than any others, and engage, support, and are friends with bagel makers across the country (and world).)

  • We started making bagels out of Pizza Tree during pandemic times in 2020 and opened our doors at our current location (114 S. 9th St., formerly Harold’s Donuts) in December of 2021.

  • Kind of.
We offer gluten-free latkes (made with potato starch) that can be purchased on their own, or subbed for a bagel for sandwiches for $1. Gluten is a staple of our business so we do not guarantee anything to be gluten-free (cross-contamination is a risk in our small, open space). Gluten-free pastries are labeled as gf, but have the same cross-contamination risk.

  • We do offer gift cards. Physical cards can be purchased in store, or online cards (not as cute :)) can be purchased here: https://www.toasttab.com/goldiesbagels/giftcards, and you'll be sent an email. The recipient will just need to have a print out or electronic copy of the online gift card number to use it.

  • Our kitchen is not officially kosher. We don't serve pork and we make a lot of traditional Jewish items, especially during holidays, but if someone is keeping kosher sadly we aren't an option.

  • Yes! We offer egg bagels as a special, usually 1 - 2 times per week. All of our other bagels are vegan and do not have egg in them. We also offer egg&cheese sandwiches on bagels, and every Friday we have Challah for sale - very fluffy & eggy.

  • Goldie’s has allergens! We work with dairy, eggs, meat, gluten, nuts, fruits, corn, barley, and more! If someone has a strict allergy, please proceed with caution as our operation is not set up for perfectly allergen-free production.

When requested, we do our absolute best to accommodate for allergens and allergies (for example, we have a regular who requests new gloves for their order as they have a mild sesame seed allergy. We clear seeds, change gloves, and work to keep sesame seeds away from that order).

  • Not usually. Because we’re a small staff at a fun place to work, we haven’t had a lot of turnover/new staffing needs. If you are particularly interested, please send your interest and resume to goldiesbagels@gmail.com and we’ll keep them on file for the next time we hire. Previous food experience is a plus, but not required.
